UN IN THE SUN WITH WARRENPOINT CLUB JUMPCROSS AT NEWRY SHOW.
A fantastic day was enjoyed by all at the Jumpcross hosted by the Warrenpoint & District Riding Club at the Newry Show on Saturday 26th June.
Not only did the sun shine brilliantly on Saturday, there were many smiles on the faces of the riders who took part in classes from 60cm to 1M and scooped prizes, many of which were sponsored by Horse First.
The competitions kicked off with the 60cm class, the second biggest class of the day, at the end of which Sophie Bell got third on her pony Logie from Aisling Lynch in second on Ginger with first place going to Shorlagh Harper on Tamara.
The 80cm class followed with some very competitive jumping resulting in Melissa McBurney scooping first place on Dara’s Bounty from John Downey on Niteseal in second and Lisa McKenna on Sportsman in third. Within this individual entry competition, the scores of declared riders were also monitored for team results in which the Kilkeel Young Guns with Conor Cunningham on Jack, Melissa McBurney on Dara’s Bounty, Shorlagh Harpur on Siucra Boy and Adam Haugh riding Blaze rode into first place to be awarded lovely plaques and Horse First prizes. The Warrrenpoint Whizzers with only eight faults got second, chased by the Armagh Team in third and finally the Kilkeel Double Dots in fourth place.
The 90cm class tested some top class riders with master of the course being Joe Haffey on Hillhead Lad who jumped into first place from James Purcell on Boozie in second and Angela McIlroy on Sparky in third. Angela went on to win second place also in the Metre Class, being narrowly outridden by Annamarie Burns on Jimmy who won the coveted first prize.
All classes had a jump off against the clock and this created great excitement for the many onlookers who revelled at the sidelines in the speed and tenacity of the competitors.

Warrenpoint & District Riding Club were delighted with the turnout on Sunday 23rd May for the launch of Jumpcross Events at their showgrounds at Moygannon.
The new purpose built course with 24 fences provided a range of new and upgraded rustic and coloured fences with special feature fences such as a wall, summerseat / chair and brush designs as just some of the exciting new layout. Four classes starting from 70cm max to 1 M provided something for everyone with major prizes sponsored by Horse First.
The first class kicked off at 70cm to test the novice riders who excelled and enjoyed the experience with first place being awarded to Aoibheann Morgan on Flash, 2nd to Nadine Fegan on Dawn and 3rd to Grace Ferris riding Mel. All riders did extremely well and many entered the 80cm class which was well represented. Hotly contested though, first place was snapped up by John Downey with the only clear round, followed closely by Nadine Fegan on Dawn with her second award and only just ahead of Adam Haugh on Blaze in a very credible third place.
With the heights increasing, the 90cm class, the most popular class of the day included some great talent and the exciting final line – up decided after a thrilling timed jump off with top place going to Gary McKay on Cleo, 2nd to Samantha Kelly on Actually Common who relegated her sister Denise Kelly on Sweet Cully Road Runner into third.
The excitement continued into the biggest and final 1 M Class with an excellent display of jumping resulting in the girls taking top positions with Annamarie Burns on Jimmy claiming first prize, closely followed by Edel Goodman on Nell in second and Joe Haffey on Hillhead Lad in third.
Special thanks to all who participated and who made the day possible. Jumpcross events will take place every Friday evening at Moygannon until the end of June, starting at 7pm.
